The Malaysian national Under-23 side got just the right tonic ahead of their AFC U23 qualifiers in March when they beat hosts Bangladesh 3-2 to lift the Bangabandhu Cup last night.

Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin will be sidelined at least through next weekend`s NBA All-Star Game after undergoing surgery on his right elbow, the team announced Sunday.

Griffin, voted into a starting spot for next Sunday`s clash of Eastern and Western Conference talent, will have right elbow surgery Monday to remove a bacterial infection and will be re-evaluated after the All-Star Game break, the Clippers announced.

Griffin is averaging 22.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 5.1 assists a game while shooting 50.1 percent from the floor over 35.3 minutes a game this season.

The 25-year-old playmaker would have been making his fifth NBA All-Star Game appearance.

Griffin will miss Clippers games against Oklahoma City, Dallas and Houston before the break. His earliest return would be February 19 in a home game against defending NBA champion San Antonio.

At 33-18, the Clippers are sixth in the Western Conference, just ahead of San Antonio.

Ron Dennis says he has no doubt that McLaren’s new era collaboration with Honda will yield renewed success, but accepts the challenges in the short-term are ‘huge’.

Honda’s return to F1 in 2015 as an engine supplier to McLaren is one of the biggest pre-season anticipations, its relationship with the team evoking the memories of its previous alliance in the late 80s when it dominated the sport and gave rise to the legendary rivalry between Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost.

Indeed, despite a fairly inauspicious start to testing as numerous technical niggles limited its mileage over four days in Jerez, Dennis says the sheer heritage of its relationship with Honda should ensure its latest collaboration will be nothing other than a success

“As I discussed with my colleagues Arai-san and President Ito, we are ready for the challenge and we will have success,” he said. “History shows Honda always succeeds and the McLaren-Honda success of the 80s we plan to reproduce.

“I hope to be with you again in the not so distant future celebrating a world championship. I’m very confident we will win together given time. The first challenge is to win one GP and in the short term finish competitively in Australia with the best possible result.”

Lofty expectations aside, Dennis admits the task facing Honda is great in order to bring itself up to speed with Ferrari, Renault and especially Mercedes, but has not doubt that it has the resources to do so.

“Honda is a phenomenally committed company and the task we face in 2015 is huge,” he said. “Our competitors have had one year head start which amplifies the challenge, the rules and regulations have never been so complicated. Not just the primary function specification but also the ERS and KERS. The systems have to communicate and function together to produce optimum performance.

“That is not too different to the challenge of two companies of different cultures working together. Therefore we have to work together to work a trust and that is what we have been doing together for the past two years as we approach this first GP and the pressure becomes more from our fans, the drivers, the sponsors, the media.”

Pastor Maldonado is confident the new Mercedes-powered E23 will help return Lotus to the upper half of the F1 field in 2015 following a tough 2014 season.

Pastor Maldonado says his aim for the 2015 Formula 1 season is to return Lotus to ‘where it was’ prior to him joining the team with the new E23.

The Venezuelan got his first laps in the car during pre-season testing and was positive about the feedback from the revised chassis and the new Mercedes power unit, which replaces the Renault engine.

Indeed, Maldonado, who joined Lotus from Williams at the start of the 2014 season, is eager to help the team return to the form that saw it winning races in 2012 and 2013 having struggled for points last year.

“It is going to be a very interesting season for us,” he said. “We are hoping to have much better performance than last year. We have been working hard to improve the problems that we had.

“The E23 is much more competitive than last year. A very solid car in terms of driveability and performance, and very consistent through the season. Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho spoke to the press ahead of their midweek Premier League encounter with Everton.

The Portuguese manager alluded to a certain challenge by Robin Van Persie on James Tomkins which went unpunished.
