UAE shock champs Japan on penalties at Asian Cup

Japan were sent crashing out of the Asian Cup on Friday as the United Arab Emirates shocked the defending champions 5-4 on penalties after a pulsating quarter-final.

Substitute Ismail Ahmed delivered the knockout blow after Japanese superstars Keisuke Honda and Shinji Kagawa had both missed their spot-kicks, sending the UAE through to the last four after a war of attrition in Sydney that finished 1-1 after extra time.
The Gulf side, enjoying their best run at the Asian Cup since finishing runners-up in 1996, will face hosts Australia in the semi-finals after a stunning victory over the Blue Samurai.
“We did not care enough at the start of the game, which caused us to concede a goal. Then, we had to fight for goals,” said Japan coach Javier Aguirre.
The Emirates exploded from the blocks, striker Ali Mabkhout smashing home a fierce volley after just seven minutes for his fourth goal of the tournament, but refusing to celebrate out of respect for Saudi King Abdullah, who died earlier in the day.
With Japan teetering on the brink of a shock defeat, however, substitute Gaku Shibasaki rifled in the equaliser from the edge of the box after 81 minutes following a neat lay-off from Honda.
The UAE players, wearing black armbands in honour of the late Saudi monarch, frustrated Japan with their intricate passing in the first half, playmaker Omar Abdulrahman pulling the strings in midfield.
Mabkhout’s opener came via route one, however, as he raced onto a long ball from Amer Abdulrahman to lash a right-foot past Japan goalkeeper Eiji Kawashima.
The Japanese, in contrast, looked leggy and bereft of ideas after coach Javier Aguirre named an unchanged team for a fourth game in a row, and only the introduction of fresh legs after the interval swung the momentum.
Substitute Yoshinori Muto wasted a golden opportunity to restore parity when he headed wide from point-blank range, before Kagawa forced a smart save from UAE keeper Majed Naser.
Captain Makoto Hasebe and Honda all came close as Japan threw everything at their obdurate opponents, Kagawa again firing wide with the last kick before the referee blew to signal the end of normal time.
Japan, who captured a record fourth Asian Cup in 2011, almost snatched the winner when Shibasaki’s free kick flashed wide but the UAE hung on to force a shoot-out where, of all people, Honda and Kagawa gifted Ahmed the chance to become a hero.
“The opponent won, but I think we played the betterfootball and had a more attacking mentality than them,” said Aguirre, who is fighting match-fixing claims from his time in Spain.
“We showed a fighting mentality today. We need to keep this attitude in the future.”

Khan meets with Pacquiao Posted by 36BOL Malaysia, named after Bet On Live, offer widely various type of games, from casino, sports betting, slot games, lottery and many more with excellent quality and service for the customers.

Amir Khan insists a fight with old friend Manny Pacquiao “can certainly happen” after meeting his former sparring partner in London on Friday.

The British welterweight trained alongside the former pound-for-pound king for several years under previous trainer Freddie Roach and always maintained they could never fight.
However, despite their relationship still being cordial, both men are now open to fighting each other and met at Fitzroy Lodge boxing club in London.
“It was great seeing Manny again as it’s been a while since we last met up,” he said.
“He’s a good friend and we chatted about the past when we were training together, his visit to London and also a bit about the future.
“Even though we have that friendship, if it makes sense then it’s a fight that can certainly happen between us. I want to fight the biggest and best names out there and Manny is definitely among them.
“Within the next few weeks, who I’m fighting should be a lot clearer. I want to give the fans the most exciting and entertaining fights in 2015 – so watch this space.”
Khan and Pacquiao have both been hopeful of fighting the world’s top fighter, Floyd Mayweather, without actually securing a shot with the American.
Mayweather teased Khan with false hope last year before opting for Marcos Maidana, while Filipino veteran Pacquiao has yet to nail down a mouth-watering fight with ‘Money Mayweather’ despite years of wrangling.
Bolton’s Khan, 28, delivered arguably a career-best performance when he won a landslide decision victory over American Devon Alexander in December.
Pacquiao, 36, seems to be past his peak but remains a massive draw in the sport and he too would be happy to fight Khan.
“Yes, there’s a big possibility, nothing personal, we’re just doing our job in the ring,” he said on Sky Sports News HQ.
“It’s not difficult for us because we respect each other and we’re just doing our job in the ring.”
As for his hopes on fighting Mayweather, Pacquiao maintained he has done everything in his power to make the bout happen and it is now in the American’s hands.
“We’re waiting for the answer from them, the signed contract from them, probably next week we will know if the fight (can be) pushed through or not,” he added.

Brendan Rodgers Hints Jordan Henderson Is Ready to be Liverpool’s Next Captain

Brendan Rodgers has dropped a real hint as to who will replace Steven Gerrard as Liverpool captain next season after speaking about the great leadership qualities that Jordan Henderson has developed over the last few months.

The 24-year-old is currently vice-captain to Gerrard, though it offers no guarantees that he will be given the role full-time when the club’s legendary skipper departs for a new life in California in the summer.
However, Rodgers glowingly told Liverpoolfc.com what attributes Henderson would bring to the role if he decides to hand him the armband on a full-time basis.
“In my time here, he’s grown from not just a top-class young player who can only get better, as he embraces different systems and tactics, but he’s also developed as a leader, in part by watching Steven Gerrard in the role,” the Anfield boss explained.
“And if he becomes the captain next season, he’ll carry it out with great honour.”
resize“I remember being sat talking to him for a length of time and it just meant an awful lot to him [to be made vice-captain]. It’s not just about putting on an armband, to him it’s so much more than that. It’s a representation of an iconic club, who over many years have had many great vice-captains, captains and players.”Watching Steven closely over his time here, Jordan understands the prestige of the role and understands the leadership qualities that are demanded from it. He’ll just get better and grow into it because he is very much a team player.””This is a guy who at the end of last season, when we were in for the title and he was suspended for three games after his sending-off against Manchester City, without telling anyone, went to a club official and offered to do all the media commitments so the others could concentrate on their game.”

League of Legends Installer Infected With Malware In Some Asian Regions

The official League of Legends installer was recently infected with malware, according to a report by security software company Trend Micro. The PlugX viruses, that has been also located in contractors for Course of Exile and FIFA Online 3, primarily focused Asian users and especially individuals situated in Taiwan.
According to the report, the PlugX malware can be traced back to Asian Internet platform provider Garena, which has partnerships with Riot Games and EA, among others. Garena just recently produced a declaration about the subject, saying that its “computer systems and repair hosts were contaminated with Trojans.
“As a result, every one of the set up data files handed out to the video games League of Stories and Route of Exile are contaminated.”Pattern Mini studies that the PlugX malicious software will allow “far off users to carry out harmful and info theft regimens on a system without the end user’s permission or authorization”.
The statement proceeds how the launchers have been clear of illness from December 29, and Pattern Small has also introduced a clean-up instrument for everyone influenced by the viruses. Still, in the event you situated in Taiwan,Thailand and Singapore, Malaysia or Hong Kong, it’s really worth dual checking out that you’re not affected.

League Of Legends Nemesis Draft Mode Is Now Playable

League of Legends participants now have a new mode at their removal. Nemesis Draft is really a 5v5 go with on Summoner’s Rift using a cruel twist. In Nemesis Write, crews choose what champions their rival can play. You can provide them with any figure properties of somebody on the crew. Every single team also get about three bans to enable them to prevent getting tied to champions they really loathe.
“You will discover a free of charge trading period of time in the end champs have already been locked in, allowing you to arrange among your staff who might be best enjoying which champs,” explains Riot Video games. If you don’t own a champion, you’ll still be able to trade and play anyone you’re given., “Even”
The strategies for these drafts ought to be fascinating. Riot Online games shows a number of ways in which a team might troll their competitors. They might allow them to have all melee or actual physical injury champions to make it easier to counter them. It’ll be entertaining observing crews fumble close to with different combinations and characters.
although these choices could backfire As Riot mentions, there’s a chance that players will accidentally find some “diamonds in the rough.” Nemesis Write is already on the Community Beta Environment for Hehe. It will be ultimately pressed to live web servers being a Presented Video game Mode. Highlighted Activity Modes are experimental complement types that are launched for a short time. Earlier Highlighted Methods provided “1 for many,” by which everybody on the staff has the same heroes and also the 6v6 “Hexakill” mode. This past year also saw the very first of “Showdown,” a sudden-loss of life 1v1 or 2v2 match up type.
“Bicycling new modes will allow us to deal with you people to produce new activities that might have been hard to do as long term activity characteristics, plus it provides us cost-free reign to travel mildly nuts,” designer Richard Brackhar Hough stated when Featured Methods were actually initially introduced. “Also, cycling new methods in and out will let us maintain these things refreshing and targeted from a game play point of view.”
There’s usually the opportunity these particular experimental settings could be helped bring in the long term, also. “A single for All” was so preferred that Riot reintroduced it towards the activity. They did make a fun tweak for its return, though: now the two squads were required to play the exact same figure.
Riot Online games hasn’t introduced when Nemesis Write setting will likely be legally released. Though, head to Riot’s website to find out how you can do it, if you want to try it out on the Public Beta Environment.

Chelsea’s Cesc Fabregas Breaks Record for Assists in Multiple Seasons.

Fabregas, who could be on course to break Thierry Henry’s record of 20 assists in a single season, has now achieved the 15+ feat for a second time, having recorded 17 assists during the 2007/08 campaign while he was playing for Arsenal.

The Spanish international has been a crucial cog in Jose Mourinho’s side this season, forming an impressive partnership with Nemanja Matic in the centre of the Blues’ midfield.
Cesc Fabregas has become the first man in Premier League history to have recorded at least 15 assists in two separate seasons since the league’s inception in 1992.
The Chelsea midfielder made one of the Blues’ goals during their 5-0 away victory over Swansea City at the weekend, which gave the Spaniard his 15th assist of the season.Chelsea are now five points clear at the top of the Premier League, following Manchester City’s defeat to Arsenal yesterday.

Manchester United See €35m Offer for Nicolas Otamendi Rejected by Valencia

Manchester United have had a bid of €35m rejected this month by Valencia for Argentinian defender

Otamendi has been a rumoured target of United for as long as the last year – with the club thought to have made approaches for the player around January last year too – though they missed out on him at the time after he joined Los Ches from Porto instead.
Manager Louis van Gaal has hinted he will be on the lookout for players in January as he hopes to strengthen his team’s hopes of returning to the Champions League, though he does insist he will only buy players of the necessary quality to improve the squad.
The offer for Otamendi, which amounts to around £27m, has been rejected without negotiation by the Valencia board, with the club hoping to keep a hold of the 26-year-old to strengthen their own cause in the push for a Champions League place. Valencia sit 5th in La Liga at the moment and are just one point and one place away from getting into a position to qualify.
Balague went on to reveal further news that United and rivals Arsenal had made an enquiry about 24-year-old Gabriel Paulista of Villarreal, though there has been no further progress or updates regarding his future yet.
United got back to winning ways at the weekend after beating QPR 2-0 at Loftus Road, thanks to goals from Marouane Fellaini and James Wilson.

Asian Cup: Keisuke Honda`s ref rant correct, says Japan captain

Japan captain Makoto Hasebe on Monday stood by team-mate Keisuke Honda after the AC Milan midfielder was fined for criticising the standard of refereeing at the Asian Cup.

Honda, Japan`s spiky cult hero, was hit with a $5,000 fine for an outburst following the team`s 4-0 win over Palestine.
Japan coach Javier Aguirre said the matter had been dealt with internally but Hasebe came out in support of Honda`s comments, claiming the Blue Samurai were “confused” by the way games are being officiated at the tournament.
“We all know what Keisuke is talking about,” Hasebe told reporters before Tuesday`s final group game against Jordan in Melbourne.
“Obviously Japan have many players at top-level sides in Europe, and to be honest there is a gap between the level (of refereeing) there and at the Asian Cup.
“The Japan players all feel the same as Keisuke,” added the Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder. “But there are a lot of things in life we don`t agree with and we have no option but to accept it.”
Honda was punished for slamming Qatari referee Abdulrahman Hussain, questioning whether he had been umpiring a basketball game in a rant dripping with sarcasm.
“As soon as we made contact with them, the referee blew the whistle,” he fumed. “They need to do something about the level of refereeing here.”
Iran coach Carlos Queiroz was fined $3,000 after launching a withering attack on Australian referee Ben Williams, accusing him of being “out of his depth”.
Refereeing standards have long been a bugbear of Asian football but a determined improvement drive by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has led to improvements.
However, inconsistencies remain and at last year`s World Cup, Japan`s Yuichi Nishimura came under fire for awarding a controversial penalty in Brazil`s first game against Croatia, a decision which lit up social media.
After the AFC Champions League final in November, Nishimura was heavily criticised again by Saudi club Al Hilal after they were denied several strong penalty appeals.
Hasebe, set to make a record 56th appearance as Japan captain against Jordan, revealed that the players had held a meeting to discuss the issue after beating Iraq 1-0 in their second Group D game.
“You don`t go into games thinking the refereeing will influence how you play or worry about money (fines),” said Hasebe. “But for those of us used to playing in Europe, honestly speaking the standard of refereeing is confusing.
“That said, we think we`ve figured it out over the last two games so we will be able to adapt.”

Thunder, Spurs post wins

Oklahoma City Thunder and reigning champions San Antonio Spurs recorded victories in Sunday’s NBA action.

Oklahoma City ended a four-game losing streak on the road, the Thunder posting a 127-99 win over the Orlando Magic in the NBA on Sunday.
The Thunder’s struggles on the road this season have seen critics question whether they have what it takes to be a big player in the post-season.
But Sunday’s win could spark a revival, with big guns Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook both in fine form.
Durant shot 21 points and added 11 rebounds and eight assists.
Westbrook hit 17 points and claimed six assists.
Serge Ibaka and Dion Waiters (16 points each) also played key roles for the Thunder.
A 37-20 opening quarter set the Thunder up and they extended that lead to a whopping 34 points at the main break.
Oklahoma led by 38 midway through the third quarter, before taking their foot off the pedal in the latter stages with victory already confirmed.
Victor Oladipo was Orlando’s best with 23 points and five assists.
Oklahoma City have now won 20 of their 40 matches this season.
Reigning NBA champion San Antonio Spurs produced an excellent defensive effort in their 89-69 win over the Utah Jazz.
Spurs (26-16) kept Utah to just 27 first-half points.
That gave them a 43-27 lead and Spurs, who had an even contribution across the board, never looked back.
Tiago Splitter shot a team-high 14 points, while Australian Aron Baynes hit 12 points and claimed 11 rebounds.
Sunday’s other match saw the New Orleans Pelicans edge the Toronto Raptors 95-93.
Tyreke Evans was the hero, scoring a lay-up with 1.6 seconds left.
Evans hit 26 points for New Orleans, while Alexis Ajinca added 22.
Demar DeRozan was Toronto’s best with 22 points.

Koreans and Japanese rule the singles in Kuching

It was an all-South Korean men’s singles final in the USD120,000 Yonex Sunrise Malaysian Masters Open Grand Prix Gold at the Stadium Perpaduan in Kuching on Sunday with veteran Lee Hyun Il coming off tops against Jeon Hyeok-jin with a come-from-behind 19-21, 21-13, 21-15 win for the USD9,000 winner’s purse.
Hyun-Il, 34, rode on his experience against the 19-year-old rising Korean star but what was seen before the prize presentation was certainly heart warming with the champion gesturing some tips on what his young compatriot should have done, probably during some rallies – bringing the smile on Hyeok-jin’s face and cheer him up for the loss.
Despite the defeat Hyeok-jin took home USD4,560 for his efforts for the 55 minutes he was on court.
The women’s singles final was an all-Japan affair with giant killer Nozomi Okuhara returning home USD9,000 richer in her 21-13, 21-17 win over Sayaka Takahashi in 49 minutes. Nozomi had toppled second seed P.V. Sindhu in the semi-finals in a three-set thriller. Sayaka won USD4,560.
If the Koreans and the Japanese ruled in the singles, Denmark ruled the doubles events with Christinna Pedersen the big winner – winning the women’s doubles with Kamilla Rytter Juhl and the mixed doubles with Joachim Fischer Nielsen.
In the women’s doubles Christinna-Kamilla, the top seeds, were too strong for Japan’s Naoko Fukuman-Karumi Yanao with a 21-14, 21-14 win in 47 minutes for her first title. She later teamed up with Joachim in the mixed doubles final and the top seeds carved out a 21-18, 21-18 win over second seeds Praveen Jordan-Debby Susanto of Indonesia in 48 minutes.
But it was Japan who ended the day as the biggest winners when Kenta Kazuno-Kazushi Yamada upstaged Taiwan’s eighth seeds Chen Hung Lin-Wang Chi-lin 21-19, 14-21, 21-17 after a 52 minute battle.

Marussia auction cancelled

Marussia auction cancelled

An auction into Marussia’s remaining assets has been cancelled with the team understood to be involved in advanced talks with a potential buyer.

Birmingham-based GA European Valuations (GAEV) conducted one auction in mid-December when minor items such as steering wheels, manufacturing and office equipment and drivers’ race suits were sold.
That followed the team falling into administration in October with debts of around $60million, resulting in them missing the final three grands prix of last season.
However, work has been ongoing behind the scenes in a bid to get the team on the grid for this season, albeit with a deadline of Wednesday fast approaching.
That is when GAEV was scheduled to sell off last season’s race cars, along with all components, spares and race-day equipment, along with the team’s cars that took part in the GP3 series.
That would have signalled the end of the team – provisionally listed under their old name of Manor on the FIA’s entry list for 2015 – as a going concern.
GAEV has now confirmed that auction is to no longer take place, with no new date rescheduled, and with a spokesperson refusing to confirm a reason as to why the auction has been cancelled.
Press Association Sport understands sporting director Graeme Lowdon and team principal John Booth are conducting last-ditch negotiations to save Manor.
One of the few positives is that 40million US dollars ($26million) in prize money awaits should the team compete again after its 10th-place finish in the 2014 constructors’ championship.
Re-opens A statement from administrators FRP Advisory read: ” A planned auction of the company’s remaining assets due to commence on Wednesday, 21 January, 2015 has been halted to allow for discussions to continue with a third party.
“Given the confidential nature of the negotiations under way we are unable to provide further details.”

League of Legends Fantasy Draft Site Set To Launch January 19

League of Stories as well as other eSports online games are just getting good well-known the more we go into the 21st century. Actually, games like League of Legends have become very popular that universities have started off offering scholarships to the very best gamers on earth. The talent the very best eSports gamers have is both a blessing and a curse to the people who will not be quite as excellent.
There is one thing to become explained for watching individuals who genuinely fully grasp every single nuance of League of Legends, exactly the same other folks observe the NFL, MLB, or National basketball association. On the other hand, the average person is aware of they can by no means really match from all those top players, much like the college garden baseball participants aren’t ever truly going in order to match up versus the actors in the National basketball association.
On Monday, a whole new start up called AlphaDraft wishes to support inexperienced League of Legends participants be capable of comply with their best eSports participants a little closer. AlphaDraft will launch a fantasy draft kind of site that sports fans are used to seeing when it comes to profootball and baseball. Alternatively, basketball. As VentureBeat points out, the site will be completely free to join, but then eSports fans can spend real money on a kind of daily fantasy draft.
Instead of drafting the best sluggers in baseball, you’ll be drafting the best players from around the world who compete in League of Legends tournaments,. That’s the difference, of course. The website will probably transfer little by little toward letting men and women to use genuine funds, starting out using points, but AlphaDraft undoubtedly will likely be relocating to a method that might be a combination of dollars and points.
The move into the dream league community can be a no-brainer for a lot of websites. Dream soccer by itself is already a $70 billion each year market place by itself. If AlphaDraft can find a way to get the dollars of League fans, the startup could become quite lucrative really, really soon. The Jan 19 envisioned start from the service will come as well when professional services like Twitch made it more and easier engaging to observe other people play video games.
The ability to write an illusion league, then sit down and see your write selections go up towards their most hated competitors, is the reason the website could function somewhat well for the distinct band of game players. If this move pays off for AlphaDraft, it could make League of Legends even bigger, and that would be quite the accomplishment considering its rapid rate of growth already.

Blizzard clarifies World of Warcraft free-to-play ‘Veteran Edition’

The Veteran Edition discovered in the World of Warcraft patch notes for 6.1 is a real thing that developer Blizzard will be implementing.

It’s not, as rumours had suggested, the first step in a full free-to-play rollout, but a free-to-play mode similar to the trial Starter Edition for users who already have accounts.
“We’ve always had this kind of weird limitation where if you’ve never played WoW, we let you play as much as you want, albeit in a very restricted Starter Edition account. However, if you have ever had a subscription — but don’t currently have one — we don’t even let you log in,” community manager Bashiok explained in the Blizzard forums.
“In 6.1 we’ll effectively revert lapsed accounts into a Starter Edition ‘mode’, with all of the same restrictions. The one difference being that your sub-level 20 characters will be able to join a guild if any of your other characters are still in that guild.”
These restrictions include level and money caps — a level cap of 20 out of a possible 100 levels, and a maximum of 10 gold, after which players can continue to play the game, they just cannot accrue any more experience or gold.
Like Starter Edition accounts, Veteran Edition accounts will also have restrictions on communications: no whispers to any character not on the player’s friends list, no shouting, and no inviting players into groups.
When patch 6.1 rolls out across the game, all lapsed accounts will become a “Veteran Edition” account, Bashiok said, although the term “veteran” was never intended to be anything but a way to label the account type internally.
“It’s unlikely to be a term we use to any great degree externally,” Bashiok said. “It will simply be the default state for accounts that don’t currently have an active subscription.”

Paul Scholes Slams Louis van Gaal’s Tactics for Not Producing Enough Goals.

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has been critical of the formation and tactics currently being employed by manager Louis van Gaal, stating that the 3-5-2  formation the Dutchman favours won’t bring enough goals to make the team successful.
Writing in his column for the London Evening Standard, Scholes went in to detail on his thoughts, explaining, “My issue with it has always been that it gives a team the security of having possession without offering them the opportunities from which they might score the goals that win the game.”

United were beaten by Southampton at Old Trafford last weekend after failing to create enough chances, mustering zero shots on target.
“Angel Di Maria has the pace but is not a centre-forward,” Scholes continued. “As a player, when I was trying to open up opposing teams, a ball dropped in behind the full-back to a wide player often had the desired effect of pulling a defence out of shape.
resize“It dragged the full-back across to cover, then the centre-back was often drawn to the space left behind, which created room for the strikers to score goals.
“In a 3-5-2 formation, that width is just not there for United. Luke Shaw is an orthodox left-back being asked to play wing-back. Antonio Valencia has lost some of that great pace he once had, and it is more difficult for him to get past players when his starting position is so deep.
“There is no doubt that 3-5-2 helps you keep the ball. The three centre-halves and the three central midfielders can pass it around to their heart’s content.
“The problem comes when you try to hurt teams in attacking areas. You can have all the possession you like, but if you are not creating ‘2 vs 1′ situations where you outnumber your opposition and get behind them, then you are not going to score enough goals.”
It was thought that van Gaal was favouring the system while he was restricted by the club’s early season injury crisis, but now that it has abated he could yet revert to a flat back four.

Aston Villa 0-2 Liverpool: Lambert Seals Victory as Villa Wonder What Might Have Been

Liverpool are up to 7th place in the Premier League table after a 2-0 win over Aston Villa to keep up the Reds’ excellent record at Villa Park.

Goals in either half from Fabio Borini and Rickie Lambert wrapped up an important win for Brendan Rodgers’ team, but Villa boss Paul Lambert will be left ruing a number of missed opportunities to get back into the game at 1-0.

The corresponding fixture was won by Villa when the sides met at Anfield back in September and perhaps buoyed by that memory the home side started the brighter of the two. Lambert’s team edged possession in the opening minutes and even had a sight of goal when Nathan Baker headed over.
resizeIt wasn’t too long before Liverpool managed to find a rhythm of their own though, probing with a few hopeful through balls to try and release the likes of Raheem Sterling and Fabio Borini.
After 20 minutes, Rodgers’ men had the ball in the net – a low drive from Alberto Moreno, only for it to be chalked off by a late, and correct, offside flag. The pressure was building and moments later Brad Guzan had to be alert to pounce on another dangerous pass forward.
Midway through the half, the deadlock was broken by Liverpool for real. Some neat interplay wide on the right gave Jordan Henderson the space to float a ball into the penalty area for Borini to convert from close range with an accomplished finish.
The goal seemed to spark Villa into life again, but despite some good midfield possession a number of attacks were too easily snuffed out, before any real danger became apparent.
However, at the other end the pace of Liverpool’s front three remained a threat as the half wore on and Sterling perhaps should have done better when he ran clear with a chance to lift the ball over an onrushing Guzan.
In the final moments before the interval Villa threatened with a long range pot-shot from Carlos Sanchez and then with Tom Cleverley, but went in at half-time trailing.
Attacking the Holte End in the second half, Villa began brightly with a succession of early corners. They still couldn’t make any pressure count though and Guzan had to be at best to keep Liverpool from doubling their advantage with a fingertip save.

Mario Balotelli Has Four Months to Save His Liverpool Career

Mario Balotelli has just four months left to save his Liverpool career from being written off as a complete disaster. Brendan Rodgers won’t sell the Italian striker this month, but won’t hesitate to wield the axe in summer if things don’t improve, reports the Daily Mirror.

The 24-year-old has significantly underwhelmed since completing a summer move from AC Milan. In 18 Liverpool appearances he has managed just 2 goals, neither of which came in the Premier League.
resizeBalotelli doesn’t seem to fit into the club’s style of play and his attitude and lazy demeanour have been called into question.
Speaking about the player’s immediate future, Rodgers tried to play down his lack of impact, explaining, “He does want to stay. I think that is the case with him. He does care about doing well for Liverpool and wants to do well, but it just hasn’t gone as he would have wanted.
“He’s a good guy. He’s not scored the goals he would have wanted, but we are determined to help him find a solution.”
Earlier this week, Balotelli’s former manager and mentor Roberto Mancini said, “I hope that he wakes up one morning and realises that he is wasting everything.”

Troicki takes title in Sydney

Viktor Troicki claimed his second career ATP World Tour title as he beat fellow qualifier Mikhail Kukushkin at the Apia International in Sydney.

Troicki, ranked 92nd in the world, triumphed 6-2 6-3 in the first ATP final to be contested by two qualifiers.
The 28-year-old Serbian, seeking to climb back up the rankings after serving a one-year ban for a failed drugs test, claimed his first title since the 2010 Kremlin Cup.
He previously reached the final of this tournament in 2011 but lost out to Gilles Simon.
Troicki dominated the match, serving 13 aces to just one from Kukushkin, and wrapping up victory in under 65 minutes.
Kukushkin was not helped by an apparent thigh injury. He received treatment at 4-1 down in the second set and rallied to win the next two games, his first break of serve, but Troicki quickly broke back on his way to victory.
Troicki spoke about his long road back after lifting the trophy.
“There are a lot of emotions,”  he said. “It’s been a tough road, a lot of work, and it paid off with a nice title. If I look back to where I was five, six months ago, it’s amazing to have a title already. So it’s a really nice moment for me and for all my team. It’s very emotional.
“I’ve got to say I have been working harder than ever probably, and I feel very, very fit. I didn’t have any problems. I had eight matches here and luckily I haven’t had problems. I feel very fresh again.
“I feel I can go again good on Monday (when the Australian Open starts). Definitely I was working hard and that’s paying off. I have inside myself trust in my body, and I feel I can do a lot of things.”

Porsche takes the wraps off the latest version of its 919 Hybrid LMP1 as it prepares an intensive testing programme for the 2015 Le Mans 24 Hours and WEC.

Porsche has offered a first glimpse at its 2015-specification Porsche 919 Hybrid after giving it a shakedown during a private test in Germany.
The firm returned to premier sportscar competition in 2014 with the much anticipated 919 Hybrid, picking up its first win at the season finale in Brazil in the hands of Marc Lieb, Neel Jani and Romain Dumas.
Though Porsche has given few specific details about alterations to the car, there are noticeable changes to the car’s front-end and nose, though the bodyframe appears relatively unchanged. It says the powertrain remains unchanged too, retaining the concept of a 2-litre V4 turbocharged petrol engine, an electric motor powering the front wheels, and two energy recovery systems.
The car was tested in Weissach before Christmas by Lieb but this is the first time the new 919 Hybrid has been seen publically. Porsche will now head to Yas Marina for a series of pre-season tests, as the manufacturer prepares to take on new champions Toyota, Le Mans winners Audi and newcomers Nissan in the 2015 World Endurance Championship and the blue riband Le Mans 24 Hours.
Porsche will feature an unchanged driver line-up across its two-car World Endurance Championship entry – Mark Webber, Brendon Hartley, Timo Bernhard, Jani, Dumas and Lieb -, with a third car to be entered for Spa 6 Hours and the Le Mans 24 Hours featuring F1 driver Nico Hulkenberg.

Perak supremo Karathu’s dilemma Posted by 36BOL Malaysia, named after Bet On Live, offer widely various type of games, from casino, sports betting, slot games, lottery and many more with excellent quality and service for the customers.

Perak supremo Karathu’s dilemma

Even before the 2015 M-League season kicksoff with the Charity Shield match between Super League champions Johor Darul Takzim and FA Cup Champions Pahang on Jan 31, Perak head coach Datuk M. Karathu is already looking at new signings when the new transfer window opens in April.

The former international who was appointed as the new Perak coach-manager at the beginning of this year, will have to live with the fact that he has at his disposal a squad he inherited when he took the job. And Karathu is not too pleased with what he has seen of the seniors in the squad.
“I have no complaints about the youngsters…the President’s Cuppers have not only shown commitment and discipline on the field but also take instructions to rectify their mistakes. They are willing to learn. However, I am not too pleased or happy with the seniors,” said Karathu after seeing his side beat PKNS 2-0 in a friendly match in Ipoh on Tuesday.
“And not all the four foreigners have impressed me. They need to buck up. We need to look at better foreign players in the next transfer window. The engine room needs to be beefed up. I am not happy with what I have seen in the midfield department”
The four foreigners in the Perak side are South Korean utility player Namkung Woong, who played for Kedah last season, Brazilian striker Charles Souza Chad, who proved his worth with last year’s Premier League champions Police plus Brazilians Marco Tulio Lopes Silva (midfielder) and Thiago Junior Aquino (centreback) who played for Vietnamese club Dong Nai FC last year. Marco Silva is making a return to the M-League after donning T-Team colours in 2012.
Without pinpointing a finger at any of them (the foreign players), Karathu said: “We need better foreign players to beef up the team.”
Karathu also expressed his disappointment at the local seniors but hopes that they will be able to “pull up their socks” and guide the youngsters in the Super League to be effective in the Perak team.
“They (seniors) have years of experience playing at a higher level in the M-League. They should be guiding the young talent. As professionals they should set an example for their younger teammates.
“If you walk (on the field) when not on the ball it simply means you are not a professional. Since I took over the team I have been trying to implement some changes to have a team that will be able to carry Perak’s challenge in the M-League. To a certain extent I have been able get what i want to do but it is only 60 percent…we need to do more
“I will not hesitate to keep the seniors on the bench if they do not up their ante. Putting aside the management’s targets for the team I need to build a team that has strength in all departments. I have to make do with what I have until the next transfer window opens,” added Karathu.
“To build a strong team is my top priority now….and when you have a strong team you will be able to taste success.”
Two seasoned locals who have been brought into the Perak stable are goalkeeper Azizon Abdul Kadir and striker Bobby Gozales. The duo played a big role in guiding Police to the Premier League title last season.
Perak finished ninth in the 12-team Super League last season and made the group stages in the Malaysia Cup. In the FA Cup, Perak were knocked out in the first round. Perak have won the Malaysia Cup seven times and the last was in 2000 and finished runners-up in 2007.
Perak FA president Datuk Zainol Fadzi Paharudin said the “The Bos Gaurus” have been set a top five finish in the Super League and also win at one silverware this season.
